David Morton and Michael Kornick have had a love for food and the experience of sharing food with others, for as long as they can remember. Beginning as childhood friends, both remained immersed in the food world; Kornick taking over the kitchen and Morton making entrepreneurial strides. After earning many accolades and awards for their distinct skill sets within the restaurant industry, the duo formed a dynamic partnership known as, DMK.

Today the restaurant-scene powerhouse, DMK, is on a mission to take Chicago’s top burger franchise business – fries, shakes, and all – global!

Following a yearlong expedition across America to find the best burgers, David Morton (of Morton’s Steakhouse family) and Chef Michael Kornick (5-time James Beard Award nominee) noticed that America’s favorite food, the burger, had never truly received the respect it deserved.

In 2009, they took on the opportunity to infuse the burger with true culinary passion, created the most unparalleled gourmet burger dining experience, and opened their first DMK Burger Bar in Lakeview, located in Chicago, IL. In that first year, their location exceeded even David’s and Michael’s high expectations for financial performance, becoming a top burger business in the area, so the decision was quickly made to add a second, third, and eventually a fourth location.

DMK Burger Bar began to receive widespread media attention with a feature on, the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The burger business went on to claim awards and mentions for Best Fries in Chicago by Chicago Magazine, Best Veggie Burger in Chicago by the Chicago Tribune, one of the 10 Best Burgers in America by Fox News, and highlighted as one of the 5 Best New Burger Concepts in America by Bon Appetit.  

With continued national coverage, it was evident that David and Michael’s franchise burger concept would succeed in new markets across the country.

So, in 2017 DMK partnered with fellow Chicago native, David Grossman, to launch a national DMK Burger franchise program.

As a lifelong player in the franchise side of the restaurant industry, Grossman has helped open more than 1,000 franchise locations and has helped dozens of entrepreneurs find success as Franchise Partners. His expertise will help to mentor new DMK Burger Franchise Partners, as the trio continues to establish DMK as the top burger franchise brand in America.

Chef Designed Menu

Our entire menu was designed and created from scratch by our five-time James Beard Nominated Chef, Chef Michael Kornick. Chef Kornick’s menu is built around 100% grass-fed beef patties and bison, as well as all-natural turkey, sustainable seafood, and organic produce. We use only the finest russet potatoes that we hand-cut, daily, and we top our fries with aged parmesan and truffle cream. All of our ingredients are thoughtfully sourced and our gourmet combinations make us exquisitely unique and one of the top burger franchises there is.
